The Cannabis Horizon- 5 trends to watch

Published on
January 13, 2025

Hey! it is 2025, and there is a lot in store in the cannabis industry this year. To name a few expected changes:

Reclassification of Cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III- This means potentially increased medical research, improved access to diverse strains, trade with countries where cannabis is legal, improved banking and finance options for dispensaries, and standardized regulation and quality control.

Consumer habits and tastes may change- These changes will answer a growing demand for smokeless options, including edibles, drinks, vapes, and spritzers. We may also see a waning interest in the strongest THC products possible, and an interest in more well rounded terpene and cannabanoid profiles.  This is an indication that the health and wellness sectors will formally enter this market.

Marketing trends will include social media and other user-driven platforms that provide honest and reliable product information. Also, user demographics will shift as the stigma of use becomes less, and access increases.

Technology and AI will be put to heavy use- The use of automation in cultivation and growing kits will expand production in large and small-scale manufacturing. AI will enter the chat with responsive watering, ventilation, and nutrient schedules, as well as detecting the presence of pest, mold, and other variables that disrupt growth.

Ethics, Social Impact, and Environmental Sustainability will be more relevant than ever- As consumers become more sophisticated, they demand products that meet more and more rigorous sustainability requirements. They also want to see their dollars going to ethical social programs and products. Everyone understands that they are voting with their dollars, and companies must stretch to meet those developing demands.

All in all, 2025 looks to be one that showcases the power of the individual buyer, so make sure you do your homework to support the companies and dispensaries that maintain the products in line with your own needs and ethics.
